Magnet Boards & A Murder

The other day I was at the Dollar Store getting tissue paper and a few little things for my craft show at the Bluegrass Festival. I found myself saying, "This is only a dollar?!"

I saw beautiful blue tinted wine & martini glasses, adorable pastel ceramic bowls & mugs, and some really adorable decorative pictures. I had to hold back. I was about to dollar myself to death!
I now want to host an ice cream part so I have an excuse to purchase the pastel ceramic bowls, and host a dinner party where blue tinted wine glasses are essential.

While I managed to walk away from those ... I did purchase a few decorative tin bird plates. The Dollar Store intends you to hang them on your wall.

I intend to make them into magnet boards.

I've seen these in stores and have admired them. They would make great house warming gifts, hostess gifts, or add a little touch of elegant in any home.
All I need to go is get the dremel out, drill a few holes, attach the wire, and purchase a few magnets. I'm thinking about hot gluing decorative stones to simple magnets to complete the look. What do you think?

For what will be less than $2, I'll have a gift on-hand that if I were to go out and buy would cost upwards of $16! Go me!

What's your favorite dollar store find?! Oh, do share!

Now ... about the murder.
We live in Georgia. Home to humid weather and cockroaches. Ick. I've been fortunate enough to occasionally find a DEAD one. Well, the other day I was in the bathroom and saw a LIVE cockroach. I screamed and ran out the room. I couldn't just ignore the fact I saw it though, I knew what had to be done.
So, I went to the closet and selected the weapon. My husband's shoe - I wouldn't DARE use my own shoe - and I wacked that little sucker. The crunch was disgusting!
That was a few days ago ... and my DH's shoe is still sitting on top of the squashed corpse!
Where's the hubby when you need him for such emergencies?!
Oh, in Iraq. I guess that's a good excuse. I GUESS I can manage to clean up the mess through the safety of a gigantic wad of toilet paper.

Woe is me.

Happy Friday to all of you! May it be free of cockroaches!

  1. i once asked my grandmom's advice about how to get rid of cockroaches. she replied, "first of all, our family doesn't get cockroaches, those are just little waterbugs." my condolences for your waterbug issues. happens to the best of us.

  2. Thanks Becca! Waterbug does sound much better than the "other" word :-) I'll just keep the hubby's shoe close at hand for when I need it. Hopefully not again any time soon!
