Dishing it with Amanda

You may have already seen me as a sponsor on Amanda's page, or read her AWESOME intro to my Etsy store.
Be on the lookout for a GIVE-AWAY on her blog from ME!

But now you can "meet" ME!
***
There's a wonderful paint-your-own-pottery store that opened up when it was the craze in my after-college -hometown. This little place has very special meaning to me - it's where my hubby and I went on our first date, when he was 15 and I was 17. In college on a Spring Break trip to NC I took my college roomies there, and I "painted" a tile - I made a list of the things I am, wish to be, and hope to be. This tile sits on my dresser today.
I'll start by sharing that with you.

~How long have you been blogging?
Less than 2 years, but am only just now getting the hang of it!

~Why did you start blogging?
It was first out of curiosity. I managed a yarn shop and Ravelry was HUGE, and that's where I first became introduced to knitting blogs. There I realized there was a whole wide world of blogs about everything and anything. I've journaled my whole life, and I like making lists. This is kind of an online journal that sometimes evolves into a grand TO DO list, where I very much enjoy the process of crossing things off. See Operation Keep Busy - designed to keep me busy while the DH is deployed.

~Tell me about your blog's title. Why did you choose it?
I get that question a lot. And it's kind of a long explanation. But here goes. I was born in Mississippi, in a tiny town in the Delta and lived there until I was 8. My family moved to Pittsburgh for another 8 years, then settled in North Carolina. Since then I've lived in Indiana, Chicago, Kentucky and Georgia. I say I'm "from" North Carolina, but as far as my childhood memories go, I was a "little girl" in Mississippi. I have romanticized memories of my childhood there. Single memories that define it, one specific memory of a day trip to the Mississippi River. I remember just sitting in the mud, playing, dreaming, and making "Mud Pies." So for me, the name is a personal memory of a mixture of creativity and imagination that I had as a little girl in Mississippi. Mississippi Mud is an outlet for that creativity and imagination to flow into my designs. I also wanted something that I thought people might remember and that would have personal meaning.

~What do you blog about?
This reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where George & Jerry are pitching a show idea. It's a show ... about nothing. That's kind of my blog :-) Nothing, yet glimpses of the little things that make up my life.
*shoes, clothes, friends, family, being inspired, crafting, exercising, funny things, things I've discovered, things that made me laugh, smile, everything and nothing*

~What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Being inspired. I tried to describe blogging to a friend who doesn't "get it". Here's my schpeel:
You know how magazines write about celebrities and the crazy expensive clothes they're wearing, the purses and shoes they bought that you can never afford, and the amazingly elaborate vacation they went on? Who they're dating and their latest hairstyles? I think it's much more fun to read about everyday people scoring great deals on super cute clothes & shoes, talking about their road trips, what they're crafting, or their life's ups and downs. It's much more interesting to me than what size Jessica Simpson is wearing.

~If you had to choose one famous person to become your blog's next devoted reader, who would you pick?
Hmmm, that's an interesting question. I'll say Jimmy Fallon. Just because I would find it hilarious to think of him reading my blog. And I only say him because I'd love to see him dedicate a thank you note to me. (I can't think of any other celebrity and I just wrote a post about him earlier, and it's late and he's about to come on ... does that work for reason enough?!)
But really, it makes me happy when I find out a family member has been reading it! And it's even better when my hubby leaves me a comment. It's kind of like finding a little note from him around the house.

~What's the funniest comment you've ever received on a blog post?
"at first glance it looks like you have an alien on your back" ... that's about THIS post.

  2. I'm visiting from Amanda's party. I totally agree with you that it's more fun to read the stories of everyday women rather than the stars. I get so much inspiration from my blog reading!

  3. Hi!
I'm visiting from Amanda's party. Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the tip on the daily mile. Congrats on entering the Chicago half! I walked a half in AZ in January 2009 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and it was one of the best experiences of my life!

I love your blog; I also enjoyed reading more about your blog, etc. I like your answer to what you like most about blogging!

    Have a great day!

  5. Hi Sarita, thanks for the sweet comment on my post :-) I really am a crocheting maniac, I can't get enough of it :-) It's sooooo cool that you managed a yarn shop & I LOVE ravelry, I still use it all the time. It was great getting to know you! Take care!

  6. I love your blog name. I used to love to play in the mud and make pies too. Great fun!

Love your Baby Momma necklaces! Too cute!

I think it's so sweet that your Hubby leaves comments. I don't think my Hubby even knows my blog address.

    So glad I "met/found" you/your blog!

  7. Thanks for the comments!

Nancy, this is my second 1/2 - I personally find I have more stick-to-itive-ness when I have a BIG goal. It's 8 weeks from yesterday!

Nadir, I haven't been on ravelry since working at the store really, but I should get on since so many of our customers were there and I miss seeing their projects!

Froufrou, thanks for the comment! The Baby Momma necklaces have another name, The Hot Momma Necklace because you don't HAVE to have kids to wear it! I don't have kids yet and I originally designed it as something I'd like to wear. I think it happens to have a "fun factor" being called the Baby Momma necklace!

Be on the lookout for an upcoming give-away on Amanda's blog!

Okay, seriously gotta finish writing my paper!
    Thanks everyone for stopping by!

  14. I so agree! I would SO MUCH rather read blogs than Us or People or any of those magazines. I get so inspired by everyone's amazing ideas. Way better than being "in the know" about Jessica's dress size, yup.

  15. You got me when you said you want to receive a thank you note from Jimmy Fallon! His thank you notes are hysterical. So running a half marathon in Chicago, huh? Would this be the rock and roll one in August or the other Chicago half in September? My hubby and I are still trying to figure out which one we want to do! I am a total novice/newbie knitter. My mom and sister are super talented...me not so much. I'm a dabbler! Nice to "meet" you. I'll definitely check out the daily mile. Thanks for sharing!

  16. Oh I just hate people who can run and still breathe at the same time. That just isn't fair! Really, I am impressed... okay JEALOUS, there, said it. I was born in Mississippi and both my mom and dad are from there (I grew up in AL, though) so MS is a special place.

  17. Sarah, I'm doing the 13.1 Chicago 1/2 Marathon - Where the Party Meets the Pavement. that's what it's called and it's in June!

Southerner - believe me, I can't breathe when I run. I huff and puff as soon as I get going, I just keep going. I am NOT one of those that can talk and run at the same time, that's for sure :-) I'm just stubborn enough to keep going! haha

There's just something special about MS though, isn't there?

Meri, you're order is on it's way! Yeah!

  20. Thanks so much for your kind comment on my Dishing it post. I have enjoyed reading through a few of your posts today. I love that shoe company you just posted about! I have never seen them before so Thank you! You are so right about blogging being like magazines but better and more real. I tell my hubby that all the time. Blogging is like have a million of the best magazines for free and the ideas are more real and often times way cuter! Those ribbon bracelets are also such a fun idea! I just found her blog a few days ago and cannot wait to go back for more. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by. Stop by anytime.

  21. Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting! I know exactly where Columbus is...I actually grew up in Dothan. Then I moved to Mobile for 8 years or so and I've been in Birmingham for the last five. Sometime this summer I'll be moving to Ocean Springs, MS. I'm very excited!

    I'm following your blog now!
