ere's a photo of my Original Quick & Classy Clutch:
Before I was a blogger & Designer extraordinaire (I'm dreaming big here) I managed a yarn shop called Bella Filati. If you check out their website, I designed the look and layout of that too! Anyways, although I wasn't a knitting expert, I picked it up quickly. My favorite part of being a manager there was coming up with creative ways to move our product, which for me meant designing patterns featuring yarns we wanted to move. I was always drawn to smaller projects like purses, cowls, and knitted jewelry (which I still do.)
When we received a letter asking for yarn shops to submit original designs for a book idea, I submitted three of my patterns, and lo and behold they were included in 101 One-Skein Wonders which came out in 2006. They even used my "Swift Cell Phone Carrier" pattern in their promotional post card announcements, and if you go to their website today, my One Car Ride Coasters are featured as one of the sample patterns.
Fast forward five years and a married name later, I think it's still pretty darn cool. My favorite was this purse design. I was modeled it after a Margaret Nicole bag after seeing it in Instyle magazine. I saw the clutch listed for $150. Although being a hand made bag it's worth every bit that, I knew I could make my own and figured it out.
Anyways ... I did a little google search to see if I could find anybody else who had made my pattern and here's a few that I found!
In my search to find photos of people's projects, I found this recent blog post on Beverly's Yarn Crazy Blog:
And this beautiful photo is from ninigirl on flickr.
So, for the tutorial ... aka Directions, you can find it either in the book or at Bella Filati's website here. I have the rights to the pattern, but to save myself from digging it up, I'm sending you to a new link! Here you go knitters! Here's to reviving this cute bag! Maybe I'll finally finish the one in unfinished projects pile.
Wow ... I just looked back and realized it was a few days more than a year ago that I said I was going to finish it in this blog post. I still plan to. One day. Maybe one day soon.
I'm linking up with Handmade Tuesdays!
Thank you so much for linking to my blog! I loved knitting up your pattern and have plans to make more of this fantastic purse. It knits up so quickly and lends itself to ornamentation. Thank you again!
ReplyDeleteBella Filati...my all-time favorite yarn store. I'm putting this bag on my to-do list.
ReplyDeleteHi Marilyn! It won't take you long to knit up! But if you're like me, it might take you a while to get around to the finishing. I think a trip to JoAnns today might do the trick!
