Recycled Sweater Sleeve Vase How-To

In case any one is wanting to try these, I thought I'd go ahead and add my "how to" to the mix.

Materials
1 Sweater Sleeve
Hot Glue Gun
Sewing Machine (or you could sew by hand!)
Glass Vase, or whatever you are wanting to cover - I found my at the local Goodwill for 75 cents a piece.

Directions
1. Find a sleeve that "fits" the vase - there's less sewing to do the more it fits. Most importantly, make sure the edge of the sleeve fits the bottom of the vase somewhat snugly.
2. Put the sleeve inside out and pull the ribbing side (the edge of the sleeve) to to the bottom of the vase and determine whether or not you are going to have to close up the side seam any. Mark your adjustments.
*I found that I had to alter the seam of the sleeve otherwise it would bunch at the top of the vase.
3. Using a zig zag stitch and going over the new seam a couple of times, cut the excess sweater off.
4. Pull the sleeve back over the vase and mark approximately 1/2 inch above the edge of the vase.
5. Cut the sleeve where you marked it and stitch around the edge once with the sewing machine to keep it from unraveling.
5. Fold the edge over (to the inside of the sleeve) and seam a little hem.
6. Put the sleeve right side out and pull back over the vase and hot glue the bottom into place. The edge of the ribbing should be at the very bottom of the vase but not overlapping onto the bottom side. It should just barely touch the table when the vase it standing.
7. Fold the top edge of the sweater sleeve into the vase, and glue into place. I hot glued opposite ends then worked my way around to prevent bunching.

Other tutorials I found had you folding fabric onto the bottom side of the vase, but this just did not work for me and I'm not sure how they got their end object to stand in place without tipping over! Good luck and have fun!

And now ... back to my craft extravaganza! I've been crafting like crazy - super inspired, and getting ready to send off another package of goodies to my favorite store in NC. Here's a few of what's headed their way ...
