I recently realized that Army life has you live life in a matter of count-downs.
I counted down the days through DH's basic training.
The next count-down was for my first visit to OCS.
Then the count-down until he graduated.
Followed by the count-down until we got married.
2 days after my DH deployed I bought a new calendar and literally numbered each day starting at 365 until I wrote HUBBY COMES HOMES! And although I know he won't be home on THAT DAY ... it's my deployment count-down.
With a few more count-downs between here and there, the latest count-down is for when I get to see my hubby for R&R!
T-minus 1 month and counting! Of course it's not exactly one month from today ... but the fact of the matter is that I will see him NEXT MONTH.
(Probably, unless the Army says different ... which is ALWAYS possible!)
The way I see it, count-downs aren't bad and I guess we all do them through life.
You can either wish away the days, or make each day TRULY count in your count-down.
Think of D-Day (whatever that day is) as a present, and each day of your count-down is the way you are choosing to wrap that present.
We can either sloppily run through each day, patching it together with whatever paper is closest and convenient (and sometimes we need to do that), or we can go through each day and pick out beautiful papers, bows and embellishments. These are the moments and choices that make up each day.
Here's to making each day beautifully wrapped.
I'm going to try and make each day TRULY count, so when I'm at D-Day it will be the most beautifully wrapped gift to see.
** I may have had a little trouble carrying out my "present" metaphor. It's late so forgive me if you had trouble following my train of thought. Instead go to the flickr link and look at some beautifully wrapped presents! hahaha **
Beautifully written and so inspiring!
