Who doesn't like to save money? If you don't clip coupons, you are crazy. Now, I'm not a crazy coupon clipper, but if I know I can buy something cheaper, I will. I'm always looking for ways to save a little money on everyday things, and here's just a few ways I cut back.
1. Switch Coffee
I recently tried Folgers ground coffee which is less than $9 for 48oz, compared to 8 o'clock coffee which runs $6 for 12oz. In my opinion, Folgers is definitely NOT as good as fresh ground 8 o'clock coffee, but I figured if I alternate between Foldgers and 8 O'clock, I should
save around $45 a year.
2. Downgrade Netflix
David and I watch a lot of movies. We originally had unlimited movies for $18 a month. Since it's just me now, I downgraded to their $9 a month plan,
saving $108 a year.
3. Downgrade Cable
I recently switched to basic, saving $20 a month! That's
saving $240 for the year!
4. Turn down the heat!
Yes, my house is cold! But I don't care! Last month my heating bill was $181,
this month it was $56!
That's $125 cheaper than last month!
By keeping my thermostat set low in the winter, and high in the summer, I probably save about $30 a month ~ averaging to
savings of $360 for the year!
5. Plan out your menu for the month!
Last month I did NOT do so well at grocery shopping. I ate out a lot for convenience and spent almost $400 on food. This month I planned out my meals and spent less than $300 in groceries, for a savings of $100 a month.
Now THAT is $1200 a year!
6. Money Mailer & Coupon Clipping
I love Mexican food. And crave it! If I don't get chips and queso once a month, I go crazy! Each time I get my Money Mailer in the mail, I pay attention because there is almost ALWAYS a coupon for my favorite Mexican restaurants! Since I can NEVER find them when I want then, I recently discovered you can download your local Money Mailer & print out the coupons you want! I got a coupon for free queso - a $4 value! Between that and the 15% off coupons available, that's an average of
$3 savings a month, for $36 for the year!
With these simple ways to cut back, I will have saved almost $2,000 in a year's time!
It's amazing how such small measures ADD UP!
How do YOU save a couple of extra bucks here and there?
