New Moon Fans - Don't hate me.

I'm going to be among those who say it: once you get over the hype of New Moon the movie, it wasn't that good. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed my movie going experience. I saw the first movie, and then proceeded to read the first book. I too was wrapped up in the hype and excited about 8pm, Saturday night, November 20th, when two of my friends and I had tickets to the big show. I was armed with the obscenely large $7 bag of popcorn, the ridiculously over-sized $5 coke. I enjoyed the 20 minutes of previews. I got a kick out of all the tweens gathered in their girlie groups giggling. I laughed when all the younger girls clapped and shrieked when Jacob took of his shirt. But then Bella and Edward's exchanges became comical. I laughed when Bella and Edward continually mumbled their affections for each other. Then I laughed as I diagnosed Bella with chronic eye dryness as she blinked and battered her eyes excessively throughout the movie. In that Jennifer Love-Hewitt kind of way. I realized I was laughing when I probably shouldn't have been.

Was I excited about the movie? Yes. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Will I look forward to the next movie? Yes.

But come on, the acting was overrated. Now before I wrote this, I double checked that I wasn't missing something and googled movie reviews - just as I google everything, to see if I was alone in this sentiment.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the consensus is "The Twilight Saga's second installment may satisfy hardcore fans of the series, but outsiders are likely to be turned off by its slow pace, relentlessly downcast tone, and excessive length." And the Huffington Post quoted similar reviews.

Now I'm not trying to be Debbie-Downer, but I was disappointed. I thought it could have been so much better - simply on the acting scene. You don't have to mumble and bat your eyes to get the point across. I suppose they played the stereotype of the moody, love depraved, angst ridden teenager pretty well.
I just was disappointed to see Bella and Edward acting oh-so Emo.

Next time, Bella - get some damn Visine. And to the both of them - quite your muffled mumbling. It's so unbecoming to a vampire.
