Adventures in Puppy Sitting

I first met little puppy girl Chi Chi two weeks ago when my friend was puppy sitting her neighbor's dog. This friend already has a chihuahua and mighty big boxer and a super sized kitty, so when I saw this teeny tiny little thing following them around crying, I picked her up and fell in love.
A few days ago when my friend couldn't puppy sit and asked if I wanted to, I gladly obliged. Now I've been on the fence about wanting a puppy. Yes, they are the cutest little things. But they poop everywhere. They pee everywhere. You have to keep your eyes on them, and you can't go anywhere without making arrangements for the little pooper pee-er
So yesterday afternoon my trial-run began. I went to her house, put her in a little carry-case and took her home. She cried the whole way - about 1/2 a mile up the road. Then I took her inside, laid down 2 puppy pads and let her cautiously check things out. She peed on the puppy pad. Then two seconds later, peed on the carpet - a teeny tiny dribble, but a dribble none the less.
Then she cried and cried until I picked her up and held her - that is the only way she's happy. After she fell asleep on my lap, I put her in her little carrier, trying to fool her so I could work on my knitting. This actually worked. Until I got up to go to the bathroom. Then she woke up and started her pathetic shrieky little cry. So I shoved my knitting aside and picked her up.
I put her down every once in a while to check if she had to go to the bathroom. She did. But the little puppy pad didn't work. Little pooper did her business on the carpet. Yes, it's the size of a circus peanut, but it's poop - on the carpet. I cleaned that up, then saw she went into the kitchen to finish her peanut sized business. I cleaned that up too, now too grossed out to pick her up.
So she cried and cried and cried. Settled down and played with her baby, then cried and cried. After enough time had passed where I was over the pooping puppy incident, I picked her back up where she spent the rest of the night.
I must say, she is still pretty darn cute. And I swear she looks at me trying to give me the most pathetic and adorable puppy eyes.
I just don't know if I'm meant to be a single puppy mom. Better wait until my DH comes home.
