Just my luck. Less than a month after using our coffee maker it started leaking.
Now yes, we have almost been married a year. And we have had the coffee maker for about that long. But that little coffee maker sat dutifully in its box from September to January until we had out first little "place" at Fort Knox.
At first it was just a little leak from the cup indicator on the side. Usually a forceful push back into place did the trick, minus a few drips. After putting up with it for 3 months in Kentucky it got packed up and sat back in storage for 2 months until it was given a new home here in Georgia.
Which apparently made it VERY unhappy.
I wondered why on that first day I only had 4 cups of VERY STRONG coffee when I KNEW I had brewed 10?! Hmm . . . after finding the kitchen counter covered with water I put it together and realized our coffee maker was USELESS! Not even the most forceful of pushes was keeping that puppy in place!
One caffeine deprived week later I packed it back up again for the final time and laid it to rest at the Macy's customer service counter.
Given my new found experience I came up with two requirements for my new coffee maker. 1. It SHOULD NOT have an external cup indicator (which would inevitably leak) and 2. The carafe couldn't be one of those carafe's with crazy lids (you'd know if you had one). Despite my new mistrust for coffee makers, moments later I resigned myself to one that did in fact meet my two requirements.
Now I was prepared that it would not be an even exchange so I was ready to plop $20 on the counter when I spied an old Macy's gift card. I asked the sales representative just to check and see if there was anything left on it, and if not to just throw it away.
After a look of surprise and a double check she was handing me back my card and told me I had plenty!
And boy did I have plenty! Just my luck!
The rest of the day that gift card was burning a hole in my wallet. I couldn't contain myself, I called David and told him about my exciting discovery! That evening we ventured back to Macy's ready to cash in our luck.
We looked at shoes. Shoes for him, shoes for me. We looked at luggage. Bags for him, bags for me, bags for both of us. Unfortunately the selection was minimal. Shucks. But have no fear, we found a way to squander it away!
Not only did my unexpected surprise cover the coffee maker difference, but bought some tops for travel, completely unpractical shoes, and a new purse for Paris!
Bon Voyage!
