Last week our women's coffee group met at a local paint your own pottery store and I had so much fun. The first time I ever did this it was on a first date with my first boyfriend - who I married 9 years later. I still have the bowl we painted together and it's beautiful.
From experience (and a few very ugly painted pieces) I know it's best if I have an idea of what I want to do. I knew I didn't want something that would just end up on the back of one of my shelves so I decided to do an oversized coffee mug and modeled it after one of my favorite Etsy shops, baileydoesntbark. Despite my drawing and painting classes, I've never excelled at either but for as along as I can remember, I've always enjoying drawing tree silhouettes.
Trees and swirls.
I'd draw them on the cover of my notebooks and in the margins of my notes.
Maybe that's where my graphic design degree comes into play - being drawn to simple, clean and bold lines.
And believe me, these trees were so simple. And simple is good so that's what I did and I LOVE how it turned out! While I'd love to buy this set from them I was just as pleased with how mine turned out.
I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's cup of coffee! There's just something so satisfying in enjoying something handcrafted. Don't you agree?
Next time I go back I'll swirl it up.
What's your favorite thing to doodle?
I love the mugs. Very pretty! I love the satisfaction of something handmade too. I usually end up doodling hearts, flowers or something swirly.
