Each of us has our little stash of must-haves. There are a few things in my make-up purse I can’t live without, and a few things I always keep on hand in my pantry. They have become such staples and have come in handy on more than one occasion I simply had to share!
I'll start with my Purse. These are my MUST-HAVES for my make-up bag on the go.
1. Lipsmackers Strawberry or Watermelon Chapstick. I love ooey gooey lipgloss, but anytime I wear it my husband won’t kiss me. Actually, I won’t kiss him either. And who wants that? Lipsmackers Chapstick gives just enough shine & color to substitute for any gloss. The bonus, it smells good and passes the kiss test.
You can get a small Lipsmackers for $2, or splurge and get the GIANT tube for $4. The bonus? It’s pretty darn easy to find in your purse!
Prior to Lipsmackers Chapstick, I was a HUGE Philosophy Kiss Me Lip Balm. It in a pot, and frankly I haven’t it since it came in the squeeze tube. I might have to for old times sake, my husband still remembers that lip balm. - for its kissability, now how many lip glosses can you say that about?! But, with its $12 price tag, it’s hard to switch back when I’m pretty happy with my Lipsmackers!
2. Mineral Powder! Unlike those (airbrushed) beauties in fashion magazines, I was not blessed with a great complexion. But instead of using foundation, a few make-up brush swipes of this stuff and you’ll instantly look a little more put together. I prefer L’Oreal’s Bare Naturale Gentle Mineral Powder ($5-10) or Physician’s Formula Mineral Powder ($9-12). I prefer the compact version of both versus the loose powder. Works a little better on the go.Both of which I’ve been able to get on super sales. CVS usually has good deals on makeup, and so does Target. Just be a savvy shopper and you’ll score a deal too.
3. A neutral eye shadow. I love Wet n Wild’s Coloricon eye shadow in Walking on Eggshells (less than $3). Just like the mineral powder does for the face, this does for the eyes. Using my finger I swipe on a little over the lid for a fresh face. Long gone are the days of matching my eye shadow to every outfit!
4. Mascara. I’m always trying new kinds, but I always go back to Maybelline Great Lash (around $5). All the beauty experts say it’s the best. Why argue with that? And just because they make the price 2-3x larger, do you really believe it's going to make your eye-lashes look 2-3x larger? Would you really want all that gunk on your lashes anyways?
5. BLUSH!!! I love blush. I think adding that little bit of color adds so much life to a tired face. My favorite is Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Soft Plum. Using my fingers I dab it on my cheek and rub in. I like this look better than a bronzer; it gives a more “flushed” look than a tanned look. The other bonus … unlike my other powder compacts, this won’t break! I have enough trouble as it is not dropping my powder and watching it smash onto the floor, this mousse ain’t going anywhere, but on my cheeks!
6. And last, but CERTAINLY not least. BABY POWDER!!!!! I find this to be THE BEST dry shampoo! Have I tried anything else? Well, no, I haven’t. BUT, for about 80 cents I pick up a travel size of generic brand baby powder and it lasts forever. Just shake some into your brush before brushing your hair. Be sure and “fluff” your hair so you don’t have evidence of baby powder. Do I really want to pay $20 for a dry shampoo? I mean come on, we’re already admitting our hair is a little dirty. This works great if you’re a blonde, I’m not sure how it would work if you have dark hair. The other bonus … it can help give you a little extra time between highlights. I am in dire needs of getting my hair highlighted, but adding a little baby powder to my roots lightens it up just enough to make it okay. There’s a “recipe” online for a dry shampoo combining baby powder and cornstarch, but I really haven’t had a need to since I’ve decided the beauty of baby powder!
Onto the pantry. Most of this stuff you probably already have on hand, or keep on hand anyways. But if you have these few items in your pantry & fridge and you’ll be ready for a last minute get together or have everything you need to bring to a book club or dinner party. The nice this is that most of it will keep for a long time until you’re ready to use it!

Buffalo Chicken Dip is always a HUGE hit! You just need these few ingredients!
2-3 cans of Chicken
2 – 8oz packages cream cheese
1 jar of hot sauce
Shredded cheddar cheese, or any really
1 bag of Santitas Chips (my personal fave for $2)
My next favorite is The Best Baked Vidalia Onion Dip
1-2 large onions (recipe calls for Vidalia, but I’ve used sweet & yellow onions)
Swiss Cheese Shredded (I usually use cheddar or any blend of shredded cheese)
Grated Parmesan Cheese
Mayonnaise
Minced Garlic (recipe calls for fresh, but I’ve used it jarred & dried minced garlic too)
Worcestershire Sauce
Salt & Pepper
1 small jar of Ranch dressing
And again, my fave $2 chip – Santitas!
