Hair-do Dilemna

Yep, the first 2 photos are me - you and sort of see my french braid, maybe?
Well, I've been on the fence about cutting my hair short. It's gotten long ... really long for me. It hasn't been this long since I was a junior in college. At which point I chopped it off and did locks for love.
I love the look of long hair but I also love short hair cuts, they always seem so much more "stylish". However, I have finally got off the fence and decided I'm going to keep it long for a little while longer. I'm in my late twenties, and just feel like there won't be many other times in my life where really long hair will look appropriate. So I've embraced the long and found some easy ways to style long hair.
I'm definitely a "wash & wear" kind of girl. I don't know my way around curling irons, clips or curlers. I'm also not a hair perfectionist ... I prefer the "messy" ponytail or bun, so most of the looks I found and liked don't require much more than some bobby pins, ponytail holders & some hairspray.
My current favorite is a french braid, or some form of a french braid (braided loosely) and I'll accessorize with a fun headband. I got a really good deal on some at New York & Co., and bought some supplies & Hobby Lobby to make some for the fall. So for now, I'm happy with my long hair.
How do YOU style your long hair? Or have you just recently taken the plunge and chopped it off? (I will eventually be going for a Katie Holmes-type shaped bob ... eventually.)
For now ... I'm on the fence about dying it blonde, like Marilyn Monroe kinda blonde ;-)

  1. I used to have SHORT hair, it was so much fun, but when my husband deployed the first time I said I'd grow it out until he came back, and I never went back to short. I miss it. I should get around to going short again. I almost have enough hair to donate. Mostly i am lazy, i pretty much depend solely on pony tails these days, occaisionally i'll wear it down but usually only in winter because its HOT here and I don't have AC! I love the look of the french braid it looks great on you! my hair is naturally red(ish) so i just dye it a little red-er I can't pull off blonde i would look transparent!

  2. Your hair is so pretty!! I think your french braid looks very good. :) I like messy looks, as well.

I used to have pretty long hair... and then almost a year ago, I went to get it dyed. I wanted something funky and decided I want a copper red on top and blonde on bottom. (I'm already naturally blonde, so it wouldn't have taken much more than a toner to get the shade I wanted). Well, she put bleach on my hair and then left it on too long and ended up completely frying it. To the point where it was breaking off! So I had no choice but to go short, and I'm still trying to get it to grow back out!!

But anyways, it really makes me cherish long hair and you can definitely do a lot more with long hair than short hair... even pinning it up into a fake bob to make it look short! Oh! & I think blonde would look really good on your skin tone. Good luck!

  4. I know exactly what you mean! I love the short, styled look...but I am not great at styling. I always blow dry my hair straight, but then I use hot rollers for big waves. My hair is long but not really long, past my shoulders....

  5. Okay, so like I'm way older than you. (think your mama's age). I used to have long, naturally curly hair when I was your age and it was pretty. I was just like you; wash and go. I let it air dry because it looked best that way. I swore I'd have long hair for the rest of my life. Yea. So much for that! Now I have it short and I straighten it. I've mastered it so I don't have to take too long to fix it every day...thank goodness, because I don't want to mess with it a lot.

I agree with you...keep it long for now, have fun styling it in braids, etc. It's really pretty hair!

  6. Becky, I've always been jealous of natural red-heads, I think red hair is gorgeous!!!
Anestazia - I can't believe a hair dressed messed up your hair that like! That's what nightmares are made up! I'm sure it's still cute :-)
& Nancy ... you confirmed my thoughts, keep it long for now!
Today's another hot & humid day - too humid to even think about wearing it down!
